During Vaastu consultations, I have seen many houses that have paintings, which do not evoke positive feelings.

Many paintings connect you to your personal life and culture. Decorating a home with paintings and pictures is one of the best ways to brings life-supporting energies influencing finance, education, relationship, health, children as well as reputation.

Artwork adds an extra spark of elegance to your house while providing the vibrant energy you need to have a great day. Although painting preferences may vary from family to family, there are still some basic rules to be kept in mind while choosing one. Here are a few easy to follow suggestions, which will add to the harmony of your abode.

1 The northern sector of your house corresponds to money and finance. Ideally, paintings of a flowing river, waterfall or a fish in the north will help to channelize positive energy towards business and career. Everyone needs a sense of support and connection in their personal space, but this is particularly important for growing minds and young hearts. Children room needs a nurturing environment. It is essential to create a kid’s room that is filled with warmth, love, dreams, and positive vibes. Children are more sensitive to the energies present in the environment. Arranging their rooms with ancient philosophy is a good beginning for the peaceful and prosperous road.  Following good Vastu principles, parents can create a study area that allows children to focus on homework and study habits, leading to better grades.

Vastu energy techniques can be used to design a room filled with good energy and natural materials.

1. The positive flow of energy:-  Kid’s room need good air circulation and more open space so that child and the energy can move easily.  Make sure that this room doesn’t have too much furniture. Try to keep everything fairly simple, attractive and well organized.    Kid’s room should be clutter-free.  So don’t over-purchase.

2. Colour affects subconsciously and sets the tone of the room. The color of a child's bedroom should be warm and nurturing. Colors It has become popular to decorate children's rooms in bright colors such as bold yellow, fire red, and sunny orange. These are too loud colors for a kid’s bedroom. Remember that this is the room you want children to sleep in and do their homework; if it is too stimulating, it will be hard for the child to perform better in their studies as well as sports. It will also affect young ones, to relax.

3. Children feel more protected when they have their headboard close to the solid wall. Sleeping with a window behind the head while sleeping gives an impression of  “no support “ from the friends and family. The child should sleep with the head towards the East or South to have a sound sleep. Sleeping with head towards the west make a child to have a  hard time waking up in the morning.  Sleeping with head towards the north which affects seriously on the health is never permitted according to the Vastu Shastra. Kid’s room with a mirror opposite to the bed may show sign of stress & bad dreams.

4. Children love nature and wild things. Decorate their space with paintings of birds, butterflies, horses, puppies etc. It is believed that animals and birds protect children when they sleep. Children also need images on the walls of things that are important to them. Pictures showing speed and growth i.e. racing bikes & cars, flying birds, running horses etc. are highly recommended for the room of growing children.   Avoid painting depicting war scenes, struggles, puzzles, sad mood, violence etc. in kid’s room.

5. The child should never sit with his/her back towards the door.  The child may be distracted by the activities going on behind them. Make a child facing the best study direction according to the vastu. Place a crystal pyramid or tower to activate the positive flow of energy . It is believed to bring good luck in study and examination.

Child should never seat below the exposed overhead beam. This is a major problem and will affect academic performance badly.

6. Your child will feel at peace and happy in their own room if you take the time to create a space that is healthy, nurturing, and filled with things that spark the imagination. Plant helps to create a less stressful environment. Studies at Washington University found that when plants are added to  a work or a study area, productivity went up by 28%. It is important that palnts are well cared for and remain healthy all the time.

7. Use north wall (career zone) of  kid’s bed room as achievement  or success wall by putting up a bulletin board and displaying education and sport achievements, report card and awards.  Trophies can also be displayed on shelves at the north wall. 8. Modern advance technology brings more and more electronics devices in the homes.  Humans by  nature loves to be near the earth & it should be well guarded against the high radiation emiting gadgets. Protect your child by keeping an electronics items to a minimum.  Mobiles, games, computers and T.V should be avoided in kid’s room or to be kept at a distance of about  5 feet from the bed area.  These electronic inferences should be avoided whenever possible.

9.  Use studyprayer card as a book mark  and place it in the book that child is  currently reading. You can have a multiple prayer card for many important books. Child should read this study prayer before beginning a study in the morning as well as before going to the bed.

The project where you buy or construct a home should ideally be on a rectangular or square plot of land. Avoid plots with major corner extensions and corner cuts. It is auspicious to have more open space in the east or north of the house or plot. The plot or house having a road on the east-north directions is a better place for prosperity. According to Vaastu, the most favorable and beneficial main entrances in the house are those in the northeast, east or north direction. The sun’s rays are vital for the sustenance of life on earth, and the rays early in the morning from the east emitting more light and less heat are the best. Doors and windows in the east would allow the sun’s ultraviolet rays to penetrate into the house, bestowing their benefits to the inmates of the house. The prayer room should be ideally located in the northeast corner of the house. The lamp should be in the southeast and water should be placed on the northeast side of the temple. Always make it a point to remove broken statues and spoiled pictures from the prayer area. Living area The living room and dining area should be ideally located in the north, east, or northeast portion of the house. The best place for the kitchen is southeast followed by northwest. Research conducted on kitchens in the southeast location shows that occupants of such house are prosperous. Avoid having the kitchen in the southwest corner. The health of female members gets affected if the kitchen is in the southwest. Bedroom location The master bedroom should be in the southwest corner to enable the head of the family to guide the family’s fortunes wisely. The bathroom should be located in the northwest or west region. Influencing factors Overhead water tanks can be placed on the roof in the southwest direction. Underground water tanks are beneficial if located in the northeast direction. Images or statues in the house also have a significant impact on the residents. Pictures depicting war scenes or paintings of sorrow, struggle, violence, tragedy or calamities have no place in the house or office. Central area It is said that a storeroom in the northwest corner leads to the abundant supply of essential commodities. The central area, which is called ‘Brahmasthan’ should not be loaded heavily. It should be free from any kind of obstructions like pillars, staircase, wall etc. Study room The study room should be located in the east, northeast or east section of the house. Students should face the east or north direction while studying. Vibrant colors like yellow, blue, orange or violet should be used more in such rooms. The students may not be able to concentrate properly if the study room is located at the southwest or south area.

Importance of Northeast direction in Vaastu tenets (Our article in DNA)

 Ancient texts attribute special importance to the Ishanya corner (the northeast direction) in the selection of the plot, construction of the home and even the exterior and interior structure and setting of the rooms. This direction is regarded as highly charged with energies.

 The prayer room and meditation center or room should be constructed in the North East corner.  As the sun rises from the east, one naturally gets maximum (Vital) energy from it in this direction.

 The north-east direction is enriched with the confluence of this energy pool with the magnetic and subtle energy currents of the earth.

 Although under a different approach and in a different language, the principles and theories of Vaastu Shastra thoroughly take in to account these interconnected effects together with the geological and geophysical aspects.

The northeast direction is referred to as an auspicious direction in Vaastu Shastra. It is important to maintain a state of cleanliness and purity in this direction in the house and workplace.

 No heavy items should be kept in this direction and should avoid keeping a broomstick or any other sanitary items there. Also, the toilet or kitchen should never be placed in this sector.

If not used for any devotional purposes, this corner(direction in the house) may be left clean and empty even if it happens to be located in the living room or bedroom. Keeping dirt and debris in this corner of the house is said to attract malevolent effects such as difficulties, losses, tensions in personal relationships etc.

The cosmic rays from the sun, moon and other planets also have an effect on the human body. These rays to a great extent are absorbed by water, therefore, it is beneficial to have wells and underground water tanks in the northeast direction.

There should be no constructions in this direction since the auspicious rays would be obstructed. This corner of the plot should be depressed either naturally or artificially.

Vastu opinion for two joined flat

Dear Mr. Manish

Please note that the center of the combined flat has a toilet block. This is a major defect  as per vastu shastra.  Brahmasthan is an energy point of the house. Polluting the centre means inviting lots of troubles in life.

The house is not in rectangular shape  with vacum at the west zone. It forms a C towards the west 

Avoid buying this apartment
