Vastu for Prayer or Pooja room (Temple)

Vastu for Prayer or Pooja room or Temple room

One of the important areas in any home is a zone of tranquility, a prayer or meditation area. According to vastu, North east corner zone is best suitable for the prayer room or home temple. This is a place that brings us closer to our Creator. It can be considered lifting one’s mind and heart to God. Here we can talk to God about the everyday things of human life, about our joys and sorrows, our needs and wants, our disappointments and pleasures.  Prayer space serves as an escape from the chaos of modern hectic life.
Prayer and how an individual prays is often shaped by religious beliefs. But one does not have to belong to a specific religion to pray. Prayer offers us an opportunity to commune with our Creator, draw on the revitalizing power of the Word of God, and to contemplate and more deeply appreciate our lives. Prayer is an important part of everyday life.

Tranquility zone is a means of helping people attain inner peace in this crowded and busy world. It works by creating an atmosphere in which the mind, body, and spirit are soothed and made tranquil.
Best time for prayer can be at every early morning or evening, a thank you for a good day, for the warmth of the sun, for love of friends who support and assist us even on our bad or difficult days.
This is a space where human-made problems are left behind like a wet umbrella at the door.
If you do not have the space to allocate an entire room for pooja, you can set up a small temple on the east wall of the North-east zone of the house.

We all have a room for eating, sleeping, playing, cooking and meeting. What about a sacred space in the home, which is more important than above activities.

In this article, we would like to share you a few important things to consider when planning a prayer space.

Important things about prayer room vastu:-

  • Deity or image of God should be positioned in such a way that devotee faces east while praying the god. West is the second best location.
  • Place water in the copper pot in the northeast direction of the prayer zone. Change this water daily.
  • Light or Diya can be placed in the southeast corner of the prayer room.
  • Photographs (pictures) of the dead/ancestors should not be kept in the prayer room.
  • Keep this room neat, clean and clutter free.
  • Use prayer area or reading but avoid other activities like checking your phone or computer, playing games etc.
  • This room should be strictly used for prayer and meditation.
  • If you are distracted or isolated, prayer space can reconnect you with God.
  • Due to a shortage of space, some house has small wall temple kept in the bedroom or kitchen. The small curtain should be placed in front when not in use.
  • Temple should not share the wall of the toilet of the house.
  • Keep rosary, spiritual books, meditation tools etc. which will automatically invite you to a spend good time in prayer zone
  • It is auspicious to keep a Meru Shriparni Shri yantra duly blessed in the temple. It is believed that goddess Lakshmi Ji (goddess of wealth)  is always present in the shriparni wood.
  • Being a cool zone, place a marble Kalash containing water, silver swastika &  half round pearls
  • Playing a spiritual or meditation music in the prayer zone smooths your soul.
  • A pyramid wish box  containing yantra  becomes more powerful when kept in the temple or at the northeast
  • Crystal shankh or Black agate tortoise is a powerful symbol for career or business luck when kept in prayer zone
  • Temple should not be placed under the toilet of the upper floor
  • Avoid south door for the home temple
  • Do not provide dome on the top of  the temple
  • Temple can be made in wood or marble. Avoid glass or metallic temple in the home
Yes, God listens to our prayer

We are trying to construct a home. The main door / garage / pooja room all face east. There is a road leading to our home which curves at a 45 degree angle two houses before ours. Our driveway is the third one on the angular road. Since we are seeing from our entry way, is there an issue. Thats the only plot which fits our home.

Vastuplus said...

I request you to post a map to have a better idea on the issue. Google map will also do. Pl mail us on info@vastuplus.com

Hi,
Our pooja room is facing east but is on a back to back wall of a toilet. The entrance of the toilet is behind the pooja room. Can you please suggest a remedy for this?

Thanks,
Shanthi

Vastuplus said...

Hello,
Please note that the only remedy is to put a thin wall not attaching the toilet wall. It should be fixed on side wall or ceiling. So there will be gap between wall of temple and toilet.

Hello,
Our house is a rented one. The house is facing towards east. We have a apartment behind our house which have a South-West (Nairuthi) Veedi shoola. We are able to see the road from our back side balcony. Is this veedi shoola effects our house also ? Our owners partitioned the back side balcony with a 4-inch small wall. Does this shoola effect us ? Please tell me ?

Dear Sir,

I have seen your blog in Google search. I am planning to purchase house back side of venkateswara swamy temple. The house is 150 meters away to the temple. Is it good to purchase house back side of the temple? if yes how much distance we need to see. Please let me know the your valuable information.

Thanks & Regards

Vastuplus said...

Hello Mr. Rama Rao,

The temple should be away with a distance of double the length of your house.
The shadow of the flag of temple should not fall on your house.
The gate of your house should not face exactly back of idol kept in temple.

Hello Sir,
Looking at your promote responses to other queries, I guess my query might be vague. So, I m reposting my query.

Our plot is west facing and we planned to build a north facing house in the first floor.

1.Can we have a puja room in the NE corner of the house with the door opening in the south. Please suggest.
2. We have the outer staircase to first floor in NW corner. We have toilet under stairs. Is this appropriate? If not, please suggest remedy.

We are in the phase of construction. Your suggestions would be valuable.

Regards,
Swapna

Vastuplus said...

Hello Swapna,

Poojaroom at north is an excellent placement. But avoid door from south for pooja room.
Toilet under the staircase is not an ideal arrangement. Keep copper sheet between toilet and staricase area with nine copper pyramid for energy balacning.

Ranjit said...

Dear Sir,

We are planning to buy a plot East Facing, 3-feet (out of 24 feet) of the frontage is having visibility to road in the South-East of Eastern side.

1) should this be considered as veedhi shoola/T-junction?
2) should we avoid or are there any workarounds to avoid any effect ?

Vastuplus said...

Dear Mr. Ranjit,

Yes it is a veedhishoola if road ends at south east corner. It will be T junction if road diverts from south east. Place nine wooden pyramid on border of your plot facing the T juction

How many temples we can keep in our house.suppose currently we have small metal temple and in future we want some bigger one wood or marble temple then what is the option available for me.can i keep both at a time in my house

We suggest to use only one temple in the house made of wood or marble. Additional temple should be immersed in water. Metal is not an ideal material for temple.

Link shows that it is a corner of junction. There is not T junction projected towards the house. If there is a road on north and east then this is good plot to buy subject to all internal vastu arrangements.

Hello Sachin
Extended north east corner is auspicious and again a pooja room (Tranquility zone) excellent. Good arrangement

Vastuplus said...

Hello Mr. Rajesh

As per vastu , south zone is divided in to nine zone. Some of them are positive and some are most dangerous. So it should be check with magnetic compass by expert to have it in the positive zone suggested in vastu zone grid

T junction in any direction is a major vastu fault. Make sure that you make a gate at west in the positive location (there are 9 pada on each direction & door should be in the auspicious pada). Door at south zone(small) can also be made in the auspicious pada as per vastu grid.

Hello Sir,

Our home is towards the south side. We have roads pointing towards home from East of SouthEast side and also from the South of SouthEast side. How are the vastus of this veedi shoolas. Any remedies from them?

Vastuplus said...

Road from south at south east corner is an auspicious veedhi shoola. Where as road from east of south east is a negative veedhi shoola. Get it protected by installing vastu strip on border of your plot at east of south east zone.Use vastu helix for more protection.

Dear Sir,

I have limited place in Ground Floor. I can squeeze in a Pooja Corner if absolutely necessary but this will be in Parent's bedroom and not one of the best places to sit and meditate as the room is only 10 x 10 and with a Cot and table, cupboard, Pooja room at this corner will be too congested. I have a small room at the first floor which is NE corner and the morning Sun falls from the Window. This room is however right above the Kitchen. Can I keep this as a Pooja cum Mediation room. This will also prevent any casual Visitors to our house OR is it a strict no. Thanks for your help. Regards. Vikas

Vastuplus said...

Actually you have a kitchen at north east corner which need to be shifted to south east.

Unknown said...

Ok, Sorry if I did not put it clear earlier. My living room door is facing SE and Kitchen is adjacent to living room . The place where we put Stove and cook has a window and that is SE. In other words the main wall facing SE, the LH wall of the Kitchen is NE. Exactly above this is the room which I was asking if I can use this as Pooja Room. So in Pooja Room, the LH wall has window that is NE and the Sun rays comes from there. Not sure If I am able to express clearly. In short.. if we consider the plot, the compound wall main entrance is SE so the LH side compound wall is between North and East. Thanks. Vikas

Vastuplus said...

You need to consider the entire layout. If your kitchen falls in north east zone then you need to rectify that first. In any case, temple above the kitchen does not a ideal position. Use copper sheet on the entire ceiling of your kitchen to bring the elements in harmony.

Anbu said...

Extention at north east is very auspicious with prayer area over there. But avoid pooja rooom facing south. Place it on east wall facing the west

T focus ( t junction) in any direction is a major vastu defect.

Dear sir,

I want to know whether the water filled in metal turtle plate placed in poja ghar should be changed regularly or not. Please tell the whole process of how to put the metal turtle in poja gahr?

Vastuplus said...

Yes, water should not be stagnant and should be changed daily. Being water element related object, placed it in the north east facing the main door.

Dear Sir
I have my bed room in northeast with attached toilet in north-east corner of the plot. I am planning to change the bed room as well as the toilet to south of the building. Can I convert this existing toilet on the North-east to Pooja Room.

Vastuplus said...

Your decision to change the bed room from north east to south west is very correct. But you can not use the toilet room to make a place for worship place. You will invite a poor vibes.

Dear sir
My plot size is 64ftx24ft...west(24)facing plot. Our west part is open by size(12ftx24ft). And in back of plot only northeast part is open and have kitchen in southeast(room size- 10x10)..and have balcony on first floor width-3ft to the north of this southeast kitchen and length-10...so when we see from ground floor..the roof appears like...10+3= 13ft...and the left part which is open and is the northeast of plot appears is 10ftx11ft.

Is this forms the cut in northeast of our house...??
we have 3-floors and all appears the same as explained.
Please suggest me how to correct this..
thanks nd regards

Hi,
I have a north facing flat with long hall and two bedrooms on right side of the living room and 1 bedroom and kitchen on the left .The hall has a road directly opposite to it and its not a T junction but instead it forms and inverted L something like _|.The apartment has G+7 flat and i took the flat in 1st floor. Is it correct as per Vastu?

Vastuplus said...

Kindly mention the location of road to reply your query

Hi sir,
My house is East facing main door is also east facing .please suggest me the direction for temple place.

Vastuplus said...

Excellent, find out the north east zone of your house- a tranquility zone as per vastu. Place temple on east wall of this corner.

If it is not T junction then you need not to worry about the south east road hitting.

Sir.
Is it advisable to buy a plot back side of a venkateswara temple

Vastuplus said...

Kindly note that the shadow of flag of the temple should not fall on your location. Secondly it should be away at a distance of double the size of your premises.

Hi Sir,

I recently booked a 3BHK. It is a north facing flat. I have a pooja room which has south door for entrance and the idols are facing east. Is this good ?
Moreover, I have a washroom immediate next to the pooja room (opposite to idols) but they not sharing a common wall. Is this fine ?
Please suggest.

Regards
Rajarshi

Vastuplus said...

We suggest to remove a south door placed at the pooja room and place a curtain on east /west level. Ideally pooja room should be placed in such a way that devotee faces east while making a prayer. Location of toilet in your case is not a defect.

Unknown said...

Dear Sir,
I have west facing flat, as per vastu I have constructed Pooja Room in north east corner of my flat (hall balcony) , but it's opposite to my main door entrance, pls. suggest if this is ok

Unknown said...

Hello sir,I have RK.
I want to put a SMALL MARBLE temple in kitchen because of space problem. But their is a wall which is common between kitchen and bathroom in North East direction.. So is it OK to place temple on that wall?

Unknown said...

Dear Sir,
I have pooja room in east and exactly opposite to pooja room on other side i have a toilet. Is there any problem the both doors faces each other but with a long gap. Since both located opp side of flat is it ok or should i do any changes

Vastuplus said...

Yes, pooja room and toilet facing each other is highly inauspicious. Shift your pooja room or change the door location of toilet at the earliest

Unknown said...

Dear Sir,
I have west facing flat, as per vastu I have constructed Pooja Room in north east corner of my flat (hall balcony) , but it's opposite to my main door entrance, pls. suggest if this is ok ?

Vastuplus said...

Nothing to worry. Just keep a curtain on the temple after prayer is over.

San27 said...

Dear sir, we have a pooja room, adjoining to toilet , where no changes can be done. Can you suggest remedies for the same. Thanks.

Vastuplus said...

Shift your pooja room is the only alternate.

Chithra said...

Dear sir , we are in us and in our new house where the Pooja room only option is in the north next to northwest bedroom but Pooja room door is in southeast and there is a window opposite which is in north and we are keeping the idols facing east, is it a good location, please suggest.

Vastuplus said...

Its a neutral location, No harm

San27 said...

Is it okay if we have pooja room in south west corner?

Vastuplus said...

No, Pooja room can not be in south west corner.

Unknown said...

My land is facing south-west (south-west road). can i make a house facing south-west direction?

Vastuplus said...

Construction in south-west facing plot should be made carefully as per vastu. You should consult vastu expert before you proceed for construction.

Hello sir
My query is regarding temple position.
Temple is placed on living room wall at north east and there is washroom behind temple wall though there is gap of 2 ft behind temple wall which is passage to pass from door entrance to kitchen.
Please confirm if the position of temple is fine also how high it should be mounted on the wall.

Unknown said...

we are living in west facing apartment .our plot is eastfacing.our pooja room and our opposite neighbour bathroom has common wall. Our idols areon the wall of their toilet. Its a rented house.please tell me remedy.

Vastuplus said...

Since temple is not sharing a toilet wall, you need not to worry for this. Wall mounted temple can be placed up to eye level.

Vastuplus said...

Reply to sujatha,

Temple shaing a toilet wall is not a good placement. Make a additional wall on your side not touching the main wall and place your temple at new wall. This is the only remedy you can do for your temple

San27 said...

Sir,

I had earlier asked you about our temple sharing adjoining toilet. you asked me to shift the temple.. can i place a new temple leaving some space...thanks

Unknown said...

Thank you so much for your response
I have another couple of queries
1. Please let me know If positions are correct : Temple on North East wall and photograph of ancestors on south West wall
2. There is chest of drawers placed below wall mounted temple in living room. Can We keep regular eatable Munching stuff on These drawers .

New temple can be placed without touching a wall sharing a toilet. Make note that there should not be more than one temple

I have a marble puja mandir placed on the floor in the north east direction.. if i keep a gap between the back of my mandir and the wall of the bathroom which is behind my mandir.. is it ok?? The mandir back will not touch the wall of the bathroom which is behind.. but there is no partition in between the two..

Gap between temple and bathroom is fine. Its ok. Not harmful.

Have few questions...dhanush rasi which entrance is good? South east or south west?..main door covers 1st n second pada...building entrance is north facing and plot is east facing..can i keep pooja mandir on north wall..in living room..(middle of the house).. does vastu rules apply to higher floors..above 10 floors ..

Vastuplus said...

Rashi has nothing to do with entrance. Please go for consultation with map as accuracy is necessary for vastu reading. Vastu is applicable to all structure at any level.

Unknown said...

can we keep alimirah to the wall of the toilet.

Vastuplus said...

Anu,

Immerse in sea or flowing river

Vastuplus said...

Avoid almirah which stores your valuable and money on wall sharing a toilet

Unknown said...

thank u is it ok if we keep only clothes in it

Vastuplus said...

Yes, its fine as you are managing the weight factor

Unknown said...

can we place idols to the westwall of our pooja room because as i told east wall is common to neighbours toilet.

Vastuplus said...

Yes, this is a good alternate

Unknown said...

thanks alot

Unknown said...

If I put a wooden plank between toilet wall an Pooja room where the idols will be placed in a wooden mandir, will that be acceptable as per vastu

Vastuplus said...

Yes, that fine but note that wooden plank should not touch the toilet wall. FIxing for the wooden plank should be provided on ceiling or floor or on side wall

Dear Sir, should we keep money plant in our home?

Intelligenttree@gmail.com said...

Hello,

I have a query regarding my temple at home. We have a wooden temple which we have placed in a room in north east part of the house, used by my 8 year old son as bedroom. The temple has wooden doors. The placement of temple is such that when I stand to pray, I am facing exactly 135 degree south east which means gods are facing north west. My entire house is east/ south east facing. Is it all right for me to face at 135 degree south east while praying? There is no other alternative available to shift the temple. Even if I shift, it will be facing the same angle. The other option is for gods to face south west while I face north east. Please advice which is better. Facing south east while praying or facing north east while praying. I am majorly confused.

sir ,can we place the pooja room on First floor?

Hello sir,
My house plan is something like shown below. I have a pooja room approx. 1.5 feet from bathroom wall on back side. I am planning to make a small book shelf / cabinet in that 1.5 ft gap. on the opposite side of pooja room, there is a bathroom. Although bathroom door is not exactly opposite to pooja room, it has approx 1ft overlap. Please suggest if this condition is OK.

------------- Bathroom wall
|
| 1.5 feet gap
|
-------- Pooja room wall
| |
| |

|B.door-----|
| |bathroom on opp side

Vastuplus said...

If bathroom wall and pooja room are not sharing a wall then it will not be a vastu defect. Keeping book shelf is ok

Vastuplus said...

Yes its ok

Divya said...

We have a wooden temple with silver coating, Is that ok? I am very worried after reading this. Please confirm.

Vastuplus said...

Yes, base material in wood is ok for this temple

Vastuplus said...

There is no harm in keeping a money plant. Please note that to have a benefit , it should be placed in proper direction.

No issue, its fine

Sir,
We are having toilet cum bathroom in North east of our house with the commode towards the south since last ten years. Now come to know that it is not recomended as per vastu. So Can we convert it to PUJA ROOM. Please guide me.

Vastuplus said...

North east being a zone of tranquility should not have toilet. Again you can not convert a space used as a toilet in to a pooja room. Keep north east zone open and without any heavy stuff.

Vikas said...

Sir, may you please talk about the ceiling of the prayer room in home. I am getting false ceiling done in the prayer room but not sure of what kind of designs to go for.. like round or square or plain ceiling.
Thanks

Vastuplus said...

You can use pyramid or square shape ceiling for your prayer room. Avoid round or oval shape ceiling.

vinita said...

Dear Sir, We have been using a toilet in the north east corner of the house attached to the living room, for past 10 years. What remedy can we do before removing the toilet and converting it into Puja room ?

Vastuplus said...

You should avoid making temple in north east corner which was used earlier as a toilet.
We suggest to remove a toilet but do not make temple in the same place.

HI Sir

We are constructing a house in bangalore. Pooja room is built in south west corner of living room adjacent to stairs in ground floor. One more side of Pooja room is Master bed room in ground floor. We have one more room on first floor on top of the Master bed room and the toilet is build in Northwest corner of the room on first floor.

Hence can we build the pooja room there at ground floor and first floor wall has toilet

Vastuplus said...

Please note that north east is a tranquility zone to place a temple. Alternate place for the temple is in the north west direction. Avoid temple having a toilet exactly above the temple.

Raja Sahoo said...

Sir,

We had constructed our house in 2013.Since then we are facing health issues. The pooja room was constructed in the North-West direction. Is it a vaastu defect? If yes,any remedies for that?

Vastuplus said...

Pooja room should ideally in north east zone of the house. Your house with pooja room in north west is not negative but in neutral location. There can be other vastu defect in your house for the health issue. Send your house layout for professional evaluation by our experts on http://www.vastuplus.com/vastu-shastra-reading-evaluation.html

Sir please brief about four room house doors and windows we have road on west side we have so much place east side and north side of home.west side extra door is preferable or not and where we construct pooja room

Hello sir, I have a question regarding Temple Vastu, we have planned for a temple in Brahma stanam on the second floor but we have toilet under the temple area on first floor so if we construct a roof for the toilet for 7 feet then there will be 3 feet gap between the toilet and temple, can we go ahead with this plan? Also 1st and 2 Nd floor are 2 different houses. Please adivise?

Vastuplus said...

Reply to SHubham
Ideally pooja room should be in tranquility zone i.e. north east with god facing west and devotee facing east. Pooja room facing a toilet is not a good location even if it has a long distance.

Vastuplus said...

Ideally pooja room should be in tranquility zone i.e. north east. This will be a neutral location. Since toilet is below the temple with additional ceiling layer, it is not a negative.

Unknown said...

Hi, I live in a two bedroom apartment with the common toilet at northeast, master bedroom toilet at east, Master bedroom at East. Kitchen in the centre of the house. other bedroom at southwest and a balcony with gap in between. Living room in north west. Please advise if can convert the common toilet into pooja room, but it will have toilets of above and below flats, will this work. Also advise other changes that need to undertaken.

Regards,
Lisha

Vastuplus said...

You can not make a pooja room which was once used as a toilet. Also toilet at upper location is a serious vastu defect. Based on your explanation, you have a multiple vastu defect. You need to align all vastu elements by consultating team vastuplus on info@vastuplus.com
